Important Canadian Student Aid Update — August 2026
Canadian student financial assistance rules have changed effective August 1, 2026. The Government of Canada states that students attending private, for-profit international institutions are no longer eligible for federal Canada Student Grants and Loans. Certain continuing students who were already receiving federal student aid for their current program at the same institution may qualify under transition provisions through July 31, 2029.
Provincial and territorial student aid programs have their own eligibility requirements. Students should check with their provincial or territorial student aid authority to determine whether they qualify for funding to study medicine internationally.
Why Consider Studying Medicine Abroad?
Getting into medical school in Canada is extremely competitive — only about 10% of applicants are accepted each year. That means thousands of qualified, passionate students are left looking for alternative pathways to becoming physicians.
Â
At the same time, Canada is facing a growing healthcare shortage. The Canadian Medical Association has warned of an urgent need for more doctors, especially family physicians and specialists, across provinces. Similarly, the demand for nurses and other healthcare professionals continues to rise due to an aging population and system-wide strain.
Â
All Saints University provides a strong, affordable alternative for students who are serious about pursuing a medical career. With clinical opportunities, personalized support services, and a focus on international licensing readiness, we help students build a future in medicine — without the barriers many face at home.
